We’re Doug and Susan. That's us right above. We’ve been living in Warrenton since 2007. Doug is a former federal civil servant; Susan is a community college professor. You’ll see Doug in the shop the most, as Susan continues her teaching career. But you’ll certainly see her and our teenage son, as the shop will be family owned and operated.

Long story short, the word “winehouse” comes from Old German with “wini” meaning “friend.” So a winehouse is a friend’s house which is our goal - for the shop to feel like you’ve done nothing more than gone over to your friend’s home to share a drink.

At least to start off, they will not be changing. Tuesday through Thursday 11:00 to 6:00, Friday and Saturday 11:00 to 7:00, and closed on Sunday and Monday. That said, keep in mind we’re an independent, family-run business, and sometimes life happens.

First off, so have we. We’ve been shopping at the Grapevine for years. In fact, the opportunity to purchase the Grapevine came about during one of Doug’s shopping trips. We know the Grapevine and the atmosphere Dan cultivated. There are not going to be dramatic changes in terms of the vibe or products offered. The Warrenton Winehouse will continue to provide quality, affordable wine and beer that cannot be found just anywhere. Dan has graciously given us a “you can’t get rid of this” list of all of your favorites.

Sure, we’re going to make the Winehouse our own. The biggest change (outside of the name) will be the establishment of a dedicated non-alcoholic (NA) section of the shop. The NA options available in both the beer and wine categories are growing and getting much better in quality than when they first hit the markets. We’re also going to have a variety of mocktails and NA mixers available for those who want a drink but not the alcohol. Our son has always enjoyed concocting his own drinks and has proven to be a valuable taste tester for our mocktail and mixer options. The second big change you're already experiencing - we have a website now!

And the in-shop music will change. Doug is much more of a Talking Heads/Pearl Jam guy than Dan is.

Do bears poop in the ocean? (That's not a saying but the answer is "no.") The Winehouse will continue to have what we believe to be Fauquier County’s only walk-in humidor.

Okay. The beer is staying.

How astute of you to notice. It was a random Wednesday that Doug realized the pictures he was taking were far better than the stock photos he was coming across online. That led to the idea to take the products on a tour of Fauquier County to show off our beautiful area and our "Where the Fauquier Is That?" series of social media posts.

There’s no harm in asking because we’ll definitely try to get what you’re looking for. The Winehouse works with multiple distributors, each of whom carry specific products. If one of our distributors carries the product you want, we’ll make every effort to bring it in. Just know that it may take some time, and certain brands simply are not distributed within Virginia.

Absolutely. Give us enough time before the event, and we’ll work with you and our distributors to supply your needs. As the volume of your purchase increases as too will the applicable discount. You won’t be paying retail prices when you buy in bulk for a special event.

That’s an ABC license no-no; we cannot sell the same product twice. What we will do is work with you before the event to make it so you don’t wildly oversupply your event. That said, a good rule of thumb is to stock your event with what you like. Worse case scenario, you go home with a lot of beverages you already wanted.

Sweet sweetness. Who is asking these questions? Let's just say it'll happen somewhere between on occasion and always. Doug spent the better part of his youth soaking up popular culture, and he has a plethora of references running around his mind at any one time. Heck, he put four cultural references just in this answer.
